About this Place
One location, many impressions
Ozurgeti is the administrative centre of Guria, about an hour's drive from Batumi. In Soviet times the town was called Makharadze; its old name was restored in 1989. The town lies among green hills and tea plantations. Guria is famous for its polyphonic songs, tea and tasty cuisine, and in Ozurgeti you will find a neat centre, a theatre and colourful murals. The mountain road to Gomis Mta and Bakhmaro starts in Ozurgeti, so travellers heading into the mountains often stop here. 📷 Photos: G.N., Shalva Mindadze / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA)
