About this Place
One location, many impressions
Old Batumi is the city's historic centre between the sea and the port. At the end of the 19th century, when Batumi became a free port, European-style two- and three-storey houses, merchants' mansions and places of worship of different faiths were built here — most of them still stand. In the narrow streets restored facades, balconies and carved doors alternate with small cafés and wine bars. Piazza, Europe Square, St Nicholas Church and Batumi's famous boulevard are all close by. The old town is best explored on foot in the morning or in the evening, when the streets light up.
