Museum of local knowledge of Martvil

One location, many impressions

The Museum of Local Lore of Martvil (named after Givi Eliava) is located in the center of the city of Martvil, on the way to Martvil Canyon. It was founded in 1957 and houses more than 50,000 unique exhibits. The museum presents archaeological findings from the Stone and Bronze Age, rare samples of Kolkhi goldsmithing and numismatics, as well as a rich ethnographic corner, where items depicting the traditional life of the Samegrelo region, wooden utensils, textiles and weapons are kept. In the courtyard of the museum, a collection plot of rare varieties of Kolkhur vines has been planted and a traditional wine cellar has been arranged.
