One location, many impressions
The arched bridge of Makhuntseti, which is often called "Tamari Bridge", is one of the most impressive and famous monuments of the medieval architecture of Adjara. It is located in the municipality of Kedi, in the village of Makhuntseti, on the Acharistkal river. The bridge dates back to the 11th-12th centuries and is distinguished by its scale and refined proportions. It is built of cut stones of the volcanic variety, which are bonded by boiling. The length of the bridge reaches about 20 meters, and the height is more than 6 meters above the river level. Over the centuries, it has withstood floods and time, which speaks of the high-tech knowledge of the masters of that time. The bridge historically connected important trade and transit routes. Today, it is one of the main tourist locations of Adjara, which perfectly blends with the surrounding mountainous landscape and the rapid flow of the river.
